TD;LR: Sam Elliott is a handsome and giant boy! He needs an experienced cat owner, a home without young kids, and a home where he will be the only cat.
Sam was at a shelter and slated for TNR (trap, neuter and release); however, Sam proved to be too charming to be released. His ear is tipped, which is standard for TNR kitties, but he’s quite purrfect in every other way. He follows me around my house and likes to be sure he is in close proximity at all times. He enjoys helping me get ready for work in the morning by sitting on the bathroom counter and usually (accidentally) knocking things over because he has no idea that he's huge, climbing...or attempting to climb...into drawers, drinking water from the faucet and then lying in the sink. Sam also likes to be sure I have company while eating meals and that I get plenty of sleep by sleeping in bed with me. Additionally, he loves food (we're working on him losing a bit of weight), catnip, and western movies.
Sam Elliott is very chonky…he definitely needs to lose some weight! He’s 18.5 lbs and should only weigh 15-16 lbs. He's managed to gain weigh while on a diet in my home. He has excellent litter box manners, but does require an extra large litter box. Some covered boxes are a tight squeeze so his forever home will have to pay attention to make sure he fits into the opening. I can recommend a couple of brands that he can/will squeeze through because...well, really, who doesn't like a little privacy while using the restroom!
Lastly, Sam Elliott is FIV positive, but if you're not familiar with FIV, it stands for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). It is a virus that is not transmittable to other species and only spread from cat-to-cat via blood - so deep bite wounds. It does not negatively effect a cat's life or lifespan nor does it impact their quality of life. FIV+ cats may have above average dental disease, i.e. need dentals sooner or more often. It's vital that FIV+ cats are taken for yearly check-ups at the vet and their teeth are also checked! Sam is in my home with other cats – FIV+ and non-FIV cats – and has been fine with most of them, but he would prefer a home with less cats or to be an only cat.
If you think you and Sam are a “match” please fill out an application and his foster mom will be in touch!
