Barley is very sweet and friendly and has the softest fur! He immediately starts purring when you look at him or touch him.  He's cuddly and likes to sleep in bed with his foster mom. He loves all kinds of toys, but small balls are his favorite, especially the poofy or non-jingle bell ones. He's very active and playful and loves the companionship of other cats in his foster home; therefore, he should go to a home with another playful cat/kitten.

He has cerebellar hypoplasia, or CH, which is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum—the part of the brain that coordinates movement—is smaller than usual or not completely developed. Cats with CH live normal lifespans. On a scale of 1-10, his CH is less than 1. Barley's CH is really only evident when he is overwhelmed or scared. This happens in new environments, initially in large spaces, so he needs a small area to adjust to his forever home before being introduced to the whole house. Once he feels settled and secure, he's very confident.

We believe that Barley has some hearing loss as he doesn't seem to react to all noises. His ears have been checked and are clean so, it's possible that it is developmental. He has a bit of a runny eye and I clean his face daily...some days his eye is less so. He has slight sight impairment, but it doesn't stop him or slow him down. He does not climb well so he tends to curl up in the lowest level of a cat tree or in one of the cat beds near the window where the sunbeams are.

Barley would be best in a home without small children. He has been fine around small dogs.

If you still see his profile on Petfinder or NTCR's website, he is available for adoption. If it's on another site, please visit northtexascatrescue.com to verify he is still available. If you would like to meet him, please fill out a no-obligation adoption application on NTCR's website. Please complete the application in its entirety including your vet clinic name and phone number. Thank you!
